I remember back in college, I was walking out of an auditorium and bumped into a track teammate of mine. Short, dark hair, slow-speaking country voice— He studied agriculture. He knew I was into nutrition. We walked and talked, I remember saying something mid-conversation like “well, you know food comes from dirt and-” He cut me off. He said “stop right there, dirt is what you wipe off the bottom of your shoe when you walk in the house, food comes from soil.”

He’d be proud to know that line stuck with me.

This charitable initiative went through 2 name changes as the board and I sought to figure out it’s operations. It was once called The Food Desert Project then we called it Project ReGen. Ultimately we decided on Feed The Land.

Feed The Land acknowledges that Land does in fact eat.

Ecology is the study of living organisms relations to one another. Interestingly, soil is the center of ecology that connects everything. Nutrients that come from animals and plants first come from the soil. Soil is where what we eat comes from and is where everything we eat ends up. Managing the inputs and outputs of our soil is not only vital to our health, but essential to our very existence. Feed The Land represents the understanding that if we steward our land well, we steward ourselves well.
