My vision for Feed The Land is to build a system that boosts local food systems.
There it is, a short sentence on what I’d like for Feed The Land to accomplish. This week, I’ve been doing a lot of reflecting on the appeal of Feed The Land. I know why I love where we’re headed, but I’m afraid I get a bit timid when it comes to sharing it with others.
The vision is so big, I’m afraid to say it aloud. So, in this newsletter, I’m forcing myself to say it aloud… or, I guess, type it aloud…
Here it is:
I dream of a day when those in low food access areas can easily access protein foods from their local farmers as conveniently as they can access amazon delivery orders. To set up distribution points strategically placed in the most food insecure areas so that at-risk families can purchase healthy local farm food by the same method they’d purchase garbage from surrounding convenient store ‘grocers’ selling them processed foods, alcohol, junk and near-spoiled factory eggs.
We want to boost a locally-erected, locally-ran food system right here in Chicago. When it’s robust, we will copy and paste the model for every food desert across the nation.
What better way to boost food security than to bridge food deserts to those that grow their food?

Recently, I went out and visited a farm called Kakadoodle right here in Illinois. They raise chicken eggs and aggregate local farm foods for the community to come to their farm stand and purchase- it’s genius. They have a vision board on their wall. It reads similarly to what I described, here’s a paraphrase: to prove a local food system can be erected and ran in Chicago and copy the model across the U.S.
It inspired me to know that we’re not the only org looking to accomplish a more local food system, but that a savvy farm is interested in accomplishing the same thing!
We’ve been in talks with Kakadoodle, I’m unsure of where we’ll go together, but I’m excited to have you guys’ support.
Thanks for believing in that faithful vision casting I did 6 months ago when I shared Feed The Land with the No Lab Coat Required YouTube audience for the first time.

Local food is clearly becoming the way of the future. Feed The Land exists to advocate for those that can’t take advantage of this upcoming local model.
